The light breeze was a welcome contrast to the dry heat that regularly plagued this part of the wastes. Talyn, a slightly taller than average man, ducked slightly as he slipped out under the flap that served as the entrance to the lodge which was currently being used as a meeting hall in this settlement. Cynthia, his faithful guardian, silently kept pace. Her long and thin blonde hair danced lightly with the breeze which she turned into slightly to keep her hair out of her face. These past few weeks in the wastes had done surprisingly little to her fair skin, much in opposition of Talyn's
The words on the paper, bleed from the page.
Not unlike a play, actors fleeing the stage.
A story told for an audience who don't care?
Or is the audience desperate for a story not there?
The chirping of the birds high up in the trees
puts my heavy heart at ease.
In stories, it's fields like these in which animals play
but no animals will come out today.
The sky, darkening and dreary, fails to rupture my calm.
Nothing staggers me now that I've resolved my qualm.
Cries of children carry mothers failing to comfort or quell.
I lay in this meadow and prepare for hell.
The chirping of birds puts my clouded mind at ease.
The cold wind grants my clarity while I feel my soul freeze.
I reach toward the sky and pray for release.
As I close my eyes now, in one last moment of peace.
She calls herself trash, she says she's impure.
Does she not comprehend the feelings she has stirred?
Her beauty is unmatched, many smiles she brings.
What could replace her? Not one single thing.
Sing your heart out, give it all you've got.
It all breaks eventually, if you're ready or not.
People will judge, just ignore what they say.
Together we'll make it, I know there's a way.
Heaviness in my chest as I heard what he told her.
A sting in my eyes as the room began colder.
A gentle rub on the back, with my face in his shoulder.
"You will understand, when you are older."
